Dundee Regeneration

Dundee Regeneration -

Affordable housing scheme and nursery design

The project is focused on revitalisation of a brown fill site of rich industrial heritage. With the decline of jute industry in Dundee, the site has become a landfill and an 'ugly scar' in the very centre of Dundee.

Sustainability is the main aim for the project- before any drawings were done, a comprehensive analysis of the area- physical and economical aspects- was carried out.

We worked closely together to develop a coherent masterplan for the whole area, after which we each chose a smaller plot and developed it individually, realising the initial aspirations we set out as a group.

I am concerned with relationship of architecture and sociology, designing for sustainable community through integration of generations- nursery on the site will cooperate with elderly facilities nearby. My project’s aim is to help resolve modern problems in the city such as difficult access to fresh, healthy foods, isolation of elderly, loneliness, childcare, detachment. The design includes food cultivation and urban agriculture to bring these two sociological groups (elderly and children) closer together, by creating a platform for integration through mutual learning and teaching.
