Traveling Pavilion
In 2010 Dundee chose mr Kengo Kuma to design the new V&A museum, the project that would radically transform the image of the city. School of architecture has come up with a challange that is related to this big scale development. Students were to design a pavilion to exhibit 7 object from the collection of the V&A museum in London. The aim is to promote the forthcoming birth of its younger sister in Dundee. The pavilion will tour the UK, with few days stops in major cities.
This exciting idea was followed by many challanges. The pavilion had to be designed in such a way that it can be assembled and reassembled in a short time and by few people. All its parts had to fit within a standard lorry. The pavilion had to be suited to shelter the precious works of art from the solar radiation or any other damage. Finally, the ambition for the design was to play a tribute to the city of Dundee as a rising new hub for design.
